Treatment for Pop Promo

The predominant through-line for our music video is to show how the band has grown and matured from practicing in a messy, stereotypical, male 'student' living room as a band to ultimately ending up in a studio surrounded by guitars and amplifiers, in maturer dress. Because it is a new band we are promoting, at the end of the promo we want to show what the band hope to achieve (platinum album etc.)

The song begins in a typical 'laddish', messy living room which is used as the bands’ rehearsal room. The mess consists of clothes on the floor and sofa, dirty plates and mugs, cider bottles, ashtrays, newspapers, magazines etc. The band members will wear clothes such as t-shirts, polo-shirts, checked shirts, skinny jeans, and hi top trainers/plimsols which is the current fashion trend of the males within our target audience.

The mess builds up throughout the song and is represented particularly through close up shots. The mess reduces towards the end of the song and some items will transform to become more sophisticated objects for example, cider bottles will change to wine/champagne bottles and coats will be hung up instead of thrown on the floor, shoes will be lined up tidily rather than scattered. Although the room is still slightly messy towards the end of the video, the amplifiers and guitars symbolize that they are becoming more successful.

Towards the end of the promo, the room is transformed from a messy rehearsal room to a studio therefore showing that there lives have become centered around music. The amps and guitars that are gradually added in alongside a platinum album disc, show the audience that they have made it as a band and have grown up and matured throughout their journey.

The structure of the music video rests on seven wide shots which clearly show how the room has changed and shows the bands' steady progression from a teenage band to stars. This is shown through close ups and mid shots and sometimes through stop motion. Each time we cut to a wide shot, it is clear to the audience how the room has changed.

Our idea promotes our bands star image because it shows our target audience that they began as ordinary teenagers with a dream. The video makes the band seem relatable for an audience because the end of the video represents how the band hope to become extraordinary and successful.
