Some good, relevant material here, Lainy, but I would like to see some more research evident, linking the videos and images you have chosen more closely to the style, image and genre of act you have chosen; you also need to make comparisons across audience and institutional similarities.

Influences
(Boys Will Be Boys- The Ordinary Boys) The 'laddish' culture is an influence in this video. This star image is a similar image that our we wish our band to portray.
The Kooks - Shine On on MUZU.
The bedroom aspect is an influence.
The stop motion aspect is our main influence.
Advanced Production Pitch

Name of Band - The Factory
Genre – indie/alternative rock band.
Star image – Performer - more about the music. Like everyone else (ordinary). Similar image to The Foals and The Maccabees (pictured above).
Target audience – teenagers/young adults both male and female.
Track Choice – Arctic Monkeys – Fluorescent Adolescent
Concept for video:
Their career experience from playing in their bedroom gradually through stop motion moving to studio with lights etc.
Represents ‘making it big’ and how far they have come.
Focused on ‘lad’ culture and the unity of the band. We would like to use stop motion similar to : Passion Pit - Sleepy Head (Stop Motion)
Star Image: Costume – buttoned up polo shirts/shirts,
skinny jeans, adidas trainers, chelsea boots etc.Key shots/scenes: On the left is an example of a messy bedroom we would use and possibly use stop motion to turn this room in to a studio by taking objects out and replacing others.
Performance, Narrative and Thematic Elements: The performance aspect is the
band playing in the bedroom followed by a studio with lights, full band kit perhaps guitars. The thematic element is the bedroom changing from bedroom to studio. This represents the transformation of the band from normal life (ordinary) to becoming performers (extraordinary). Third Initial Idea
The All American Rejects- Dirty Little Secret
Star Image: American/Alternative/verging on Emo. However, they are cleaner cut. Slightly preppy. Attractive particularly to teenaged girls. Polo shirts and skinny jeans. Similar to OkGo, All American Rejects, Blink 182 and Greenday (slightly).
Treatment: Similar to the actual video. Set in a school. The band is wearing school uniform. Standard band in studio cross cutting with students and teachers holding cue cards with the secrets on. The secrets are surprising and unexpected of the person holding it due to the way they look and dress. This creates entertainment and perhaps humour for the audience. It also highlights how it is human nature to pre-judge someone on appearence (or create stereotypes for them). The clips of the 'secrets' would be filmed on hand held around a school.

Second Initial Idea
Just Jack- Embers
Star Image: Artist- no band. Indie/Arthouse/Trendy/Alternative
Similar to Just Jack, perhaps a less extreme Pete Doherty (with a similar 'rock and roll' image). Slightly edgey/indie/similar image to previous idea. A look based on Alex Turner and in the syle of the XX.
Leather jacket, skinny jeans, buttoned up polo shirts, chelsea boots, an "unwashed" look(not 'clean cut').
The song consists of the same artist singing all the vocals and harmonies therefore I vision the video to show singing all the vocals and harmonies, therefore I vision the video to show duplicates of the same artist singing each part. It would open with the lone artist clapping to the beat and singing the first part, as different vocals/harmonies come in, duplicates of himself would appear behind him etc. He could perhaps spin round so that the audience expect a new person behind him however it reveals him again singing a new part of the song (similar in the Maccabes-Love You Better). It would cross-cut with the four duplicates sitting round a campfire (festival-esq) singing each harmony. The fire represents the lyrics in the song. When the word 'Embers' is repeated the artist could drop cue cards which say 'Embers'- similar to Bob Dylan's 'Don't Look Back'. The artist is the only person in the video- this puts stress on him and gives him the full audience attention.

First Initial Idea
The Maccabes- Love You Better
Star Image: Brit Pop/Indie/Alternative
Similar to The Rolling Stones, Artic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, The Maccabes, The Clash, Oasis, Blur, Kasabian, The Vervce
Cool, rebellious, 'sex, drugs, roack and roll', passionate about their music, careless image.
Indie haircutes, skinny jeans, denim and leather jackets.
Focused on being performers, 'about the music'
Target Audience: Teenagers, Young Adults, Trendy, Arthouse
Treatment for Video: The lead singer is standing infront of a projector screen which is projecting the whole band playing and singing the song. The lone singer is still and is not singing. The other element would be an image of the band projected on water. A further developement of this would be a girl in a white dress being filmed underwater. At the end the band are too perhaps under water. The lead singer swims to the girl. Overall the video idea is surrounded around projectors and water.

A2 Media Studies Advanced Portfolio Brief
Advanced Portfolio in Media (100 marks)
Produce a main artefact, two ancillary artefacts and an accompanying blog containing our research, planning and evaluation materials.
Critical Perspectives in Media (100 marks)
An exam in which we will need to show our understanding of media theory as it applies to our own product and to real media texts.
Advanced Portfolio
Multimedia production based on the Music Industry
Create a promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options: a website homepage for the band, a cover for its release on DVD or a magazine advertisement for the DVD.
The deadline for production work is the end of the Autumn term (December).
Critical Perspectives in Media
There are two sections in the paper:
Section A: Theoretical Evaluation of Production (50 marks)
Question 1a will involve analysing our own product using the concepts: digital technology, creativity, research and planning, post-production and using conventions from real media texts.
Question 1b will involve analysing our own product using the following concepts: genre, narrative, representation, audience and media language.
Section B: Contemporary Media Issues (50 marks)
Question 2 will involve discussing a key media concept using a range of texts from two media products. We will explore the topic of Media and Collective Identity.
Specifically, we will be looking at how the notion of Britishness is constructed by the media that we consume, using examples from: British crime cinema and British broadcast news.
